Welcome to Breckinridge County!

I want to be the first to welcome you to Breckinridge County and invite you to visit our lovely county as often as possible. We are situated along the scenic Ohio River and are the sixth largest county in area among the 120 counties of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Breckinridge County was named in honor of John C. Breckinridge in 1780 and was officially formed in 1799. Down through history, our county has been a vital link to many events that have helped shape us into the wonderful communities that we presently enjoy today. Our three incorporated cities - Cloverport, Hardinsburg, and Irvington - all have major celebrations throughout the year to celebrate our historic pasts. Irvington has their Railroad Festival in May, Cloverport has their Sacajawea Festival in September, and Hardinsburg has their Hoedown Day in October, all of which are well received by citizens from all over the state of Kentucky and surrounding states.

We are also fortunate to have Rough River Dam State Resort Park located along our southern border with Grayson County. Whether you are a fisherman or enjoy boating, skiing, or any other water sport, this is a great area to come and relax for the weekend or put down roots and stay awhile. If your sport is hunting, you will find a vast array of options available. The Yellowbank Wildlife Management Area is located in our county and offers hunting enthusiasts unlimited potential.

I want to again take this opportunity to thank you for visiting our website. Bring your friends and neighbors and enjoy more of that Breckinridge County hospitality that we have enjoyed for the past 200 years. We pride ourselves on being the friendliest county in this area and I invite you to come visit us and let us have the opportunity to prove that to you and your family. I hope to see you in the near future!
